As an electrical and systems engineer in transportation, Brian Burkhard is always thinking of ways to improve the operations of “bricks-and-mortar” transportation infrastructure with new technologies and data.
As a teenager, Brian built his own shortwave radio and experimented with different types of antennas to see how he could improve receiving radio signals from around the world. This early interest in “DX-ing” eventually led to Brian embarking a career as an electrical engineer.
The curiosity on how to build and improve how things work continues to drive Brian’s creativity and insight for Jacobs transportation solutions.
“While I am excited about the possibility of automated vehicles (AVs) being commercially available, I believe that an AV is only as good as it is “connected” or as a connected vehicle (CV). CVs can save lives, improve mobility and decease greenhouse gas emissions. I am passionate about how these new kinds of vehicles can interface with our transportation infrastructure and improve our quality of life.”
