Coachella forced to change headliners

For reasons that are not entirely clear, the Coachella rumor mill went into full swing today with news that Justin Timberlake would be headlining the 2019 festival along with Childish Gambino and Kanye West.

Here’s what we know — Timberlake had been pursued by Goldenvoice for several years and had even been on the original lineup, but was sidelined by a vocal-cord injury this fall that required him to cancel a number of shows and reschedule them for next year. Those new shows violated Coachella’s expansive radius clause and ultimately resulted in him not being able to participate in Coachella.

As we’ve previously reported, Coachella’s radius clause bars artists from playing hard ticket concerts in Southern California from December to May — Timberlake is scheduled to make up shows in Anaheim, San Diego and LA in February and March.

Of course Goldenvoice could have just waived the requirement, but we hear there’s no bad blood and that Timberlake will likely perform at Coachella in 2020 instead.
